Gym Interior Setup

Equipment is not a gym. Flooring, mirrors, storage and signage are what turn a room with machines in it into somewhere people want to train — and they are almost always the items cut first and missed most.

What interior setup covers

  • Zoned flooringDifferent build-ups for free weights, machines, cardio and turf. See Gym Flooring.
  • MirrorsWall-fixed and correctly positioned for form checking. They also make a small room feel considerably larger.
  • Storage and rackingDumbbell racks, plate trees, bar holders and accessory shelving. Without it the floor becomes a hazard.
  • SignageZone markers, safety notices and equipment instructions — essential where the room is unsupervised.
  • Wall protectionWhere bars and plates meet walls.
  • Layout finishingFinal positioning so circulation actually works once everything is in.

The order it happens in

  1. Wet trades and painting finish firstEverything else waits for these to be complete and dry.
  2. Flooring goes downBefore any equipment arrives. Retro-fitting flooring around installed machines is slow and never as neat.
  3. Mirrors and wall fixingsWhile the walls are still clear and accessible.
  4. Heavy equipment placedRacks and large machines positioned to the approved layout.
  5. Storage and small equipmentRacking fixed, then dumbbells, bars and plates loaded into it.
  6. Signage and handoverZone markers up, walkthrough completed, room signed off.

The most common sequencing mistake is ordering equipment before deciding on flooring. Rubber build-up changes clearances and sometimes stops doors opening — decide it first.

Common questions

Can you do interiors without supplying equipment?

Yes. Flooring, mirrors and storage can be handled on their own if you already have machines, or are buying them elsewhere.

Do I really need mirrors?

For any room where people train unsupervised, they are genuinely useful for form. In small rooms they also change how the space feels more than any other single item for the money.

How much of a budget should interiors take?

Flooring alone is commonly 10–15% of a fit-out, and storage, mirrors and signage add to that. Budget for it from the start rather than treating it as an extra — it is the part that makes the room usable.

Finish the room properly

Send the room dimensions and what is already in it. We will specify flooring, mirrors and storage together.
