Go to the shopPlanning comes before purchasing. We take the room you have, work out what will physically fit and how people will move through it, and only then produce an equipment list. It is the cheapest stage of any gym project and the one that prevents the expensive mistakes.
An equipment list on its own tells you nothing about whether the gym will work. Planning answers the questions that are painful to fix later:
Can two people use the rack and the bench at the same time without colliding? Is there room to walk behind the treadmills? Does the lat pulldown have the ceiling height it needs? Will the flooring build-up stop the door opening?
Every one of those is cheap to solve on a drawing and expensive to solve after delivery.
The most common planning error is filling the floor. A gym at 100% equipment density is unusable — you need the empty space as much as the machines.
Working figures we use when setting out a floor. They are what make the difference between a gym that looks full and one that works.
| Element | Allowance | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Main walkway | 1.2 m minimum | Two people passing, one carrying weights |
| Behind a treadmill | 1.5–2 m clear | Safety run-off if someone loses footing |
| Around a rack | 1 m each loading side | Loading plates and spotting |
| Between machines | 0.6–0.9 m | Entry and exit without disturbing the next user |
| Overhead work | 2.4 m clear height | Pressing and pull-ups without hitting the ceiling |
| Free-weight drop zone | Dedicated platform | Protects the slab and controls noise |
For a couple of items in a spare room, a conversation and your dimensions are usually enough — we can tell you what fits without a formal layout. Planning earns its place once you are placing a rack, several machines, or anything into a shared or commercial building.
Yes, and for home projects that is often how we work. Send the room dimensions, the clear ceiling height, photos of each wall, and the access route. For commercial floors a site visit is better, because power positions, slab conditions and beam heights are hard to judge from photographs.
Then you have found out at the right moment. We will propose what does fit and what to sacrifice — usually a shorter rack, a different cardio choice, or fewer stations with better spacing. We would rather tell you before delivery than after.
Yes. Send us the drawings and we will overlay the equipment layout, flagging conflicts with power positions, ceiling heights and flooring build-up while they are still cheap to resolve.
The equipment schedule becomes the order, and delivery is sequenced against your programme. See Equipment Installation for how the fit-out stage works.
Dimensions, clear ceiling height and a photo of each wall is enough to start. We will tell you what fits before anything is quoted.
